“If he was my taste, I would take him in a minute, but you know me. I like my men tall dark and handsome, and a dick that’s always ready,” Taylor said, leaning his head away as he aimed his words in Payton’s direction.

  “You and I know that you used to like your men shorter. Hell, Payton’s built like a football player. Tom Brady has nothing on him, and he sort of looks like him. A young Tom, I mean.”

  Taylor thought about what Max had said to him, and a sigh crawled from his mouth.

  “No regrets I hope. Taylor?”

  “How could I have any regrets about a man who gave up everything for me? He was fucking straight, for fuck’s sake, and I turned him and that was the best decision of my life. I’m happy now. There is nothing I would ever regret about being with this man, Taylor thought.

  “YOU TURNED HIM IN MORE ways than one.” Max thought of his own transformation and his dick got hard thinking about how Jami had taken him, and how he had to admit to himself that he was in love with a man.   “He would understand this one time,” Taylor said. “He loves you. Payton would forgive me if I made a stupid mistake.” He turned and smiled at Payton sitting not talking to anyone just looking at him.

  “I do stupid things when I drink. Like Madeline,” Max said.

  “We know that. By we, I mean the boys know your weakness. Jami and booze. How’s that going with Madeline?” Taylor said straightening Max’s bow tie as the orchestra continued in the background drowning out most of the conversation.

  “Jami invited Madeline and his mother, but that text I got was her. She’s not coming, and she’s not pregnant either. I’ll tell you more about that later. Now I have to get married.”

  Chapter Two

  TAYLOR CONTINUED TALKING and whispering through a tight mouth so no one could hear him but Max. Then Taylor glanced from Max to see a man with his back to them. His wide shoulders and muscled thighs inside a pair of tight pants that looked like they were molded to his ass which reminded him of someone. But who? Taylor narrowed his eyes, and wrinkled his forehead.

  Who is that? Taylor questioned. Another man had never made his dick quake when looking at him. No one but Payton. Well no one recently, but Payton.   His hair was dark and straight. When he unbent his knees and stood, he was barely six feet, and when he turned around Taylor’s mouth opened. “Who invited him here?”

  “What is it, Taylor?” Max questioned turning to see Taylor’s face, and Taylor looking at Max with wide eyes. “Don’t go bat-shit on me at my wedding. What the fuck is wrong with you?”

  Taylor’s mouth dry, he had to swallow several times, and then he passed his tongue over his bottom lip to moisten it and bit his bottom lip. Taylor narrowed his eyes because he couldn’t see at that distance, and he needed to be sure of who he was looking at. He didn’t have on his contacts, or his glasses, but he didn’t think he would need them today. His eyes were sensitive, and he hated those damn contacts. He never liked anything that would make him dependent that was, until he met Payton. And now he depended on him for everything.

  “Who invited him?” Taylor said as his voice broke, and Max turned to see who had Taylor riled up and looking unhinged which was unusual.

  “Who are you talking about?”

  “MISTER SEXY OVER THERE. Mr. I don’t give a fuck about anyone or anything.” There was something serious and hurt buried in Taylor’s voice, and Max knew him well enough to know that the pain he heard still existed.

  “The guy with the blue shirt and white pants, who is that?” Taylor asked.

  “That’s Dylan our photographer. I think Jami hired him. His friend Chase, you know the one I told you about at the club, the ballet dancer. Chase knew him and he agreed when we couldn’t find a good photographer. It was a last minute thing, and he’s the best in Manhattan.”

  “Dylan Peterson? Tell me it’s not Dylan Peterson,” Taylor said raising his voice.

  “Quiet, Taylor, for fuck’s sake someone will hear you,” Max said glaring over at Taylor. “The way you’re looking at him you’re making Payton suspicious.” Max watched Payton turning around and then looking up at the two of them and then turning again.

  No one heard Taylor or Max anyway because all eyes were on Jami as the wedding song played softly and Jami walked slowly up the aisle as a male singer belted out, “You’ll Never Know.”

  As Jami neared the place where the guests were seated, mouths opened wide and a collective awe could be heard throughout the property.

  It was a long walk down a red carpet surrounded by white flowers suspended in baskets near comfortable chairs. The day was perfect and the sun sent sparkles of sunshine and a rainbow on the lake behind them.

  Jami wore lower heels because of the distance from walking from the back of Taylor’s parents’ large mansion, which ended on a small hill surrounded by a man-made lake that ran the length of their property. On that hill set a gazebo, and standing beneath the roof was Max and Taylor and the minister.

  Taylor watched Max take a long breath and clutched the bottom of his jacket. “Relax, Max.”

  Max looked to Taylor. “You relax. You’re the only one who’s sweating out here. The weather is perfect. You could swear you were the one who’s getting married. Do you have the rings?”

  Taylor didn’t take his eyes off the handsome man standing with camera in hand as he ran beside Jami and Max Sr. taking picture after picture and Max didn’t take his eyes off Taylor which he should have because this was his day and he didn’t need to be worried about Taylor and his love life.

  Patting his pocket, Taylor said, “I have them here.” And he took them out and placed Jami’s ring on his pinky and the other in the front of his wedding band.

  When Dylan reached the gazebo and snapped more pictures of Maxwell Sr. handing Jami off to Max, Max couldn’t help but see Taylor locking eyes with Dylan, and Dylan’s lip curving upward into an arrogant smile.

  Max glanced down to see Taylor’s hand shake and he balled his fist to his side. He had never seen Taylor nervous around anyone in his life, but this man did something to him not even Payton could do.

  Then it dawned on Max that this was the Dylan, Taylor had met when he was nineteen, and from that time to this day, Taylor had mentioned his name to Max, even last night when he had drank too much, Taylor said that he’d been haunted by his presence in his life, and he’d regretted their relationship.

  Max couldn’t believe how wonderful Jami looked after all the time Jami had spent making this occasion the most memorable of their lives with the help of Taylor’s parents. And Max Sr. didn’t disappoint him because his father stepped up, and asked Jami for permission to walk him down the aisle.

  The old man finally came through, Max thought as Max Sr. handed off Jami to Max.

  When he first married Paige he was so drunk he didn’t remember
anything but seeing her lying horizontal in his father’s garden with her legs open, and to this day, he still hadn’t figured out who the man balls deep inside Paige had been, nor did he care then, and fuck it now.   And then he glanced at Jami and he felt that nothing would go wrong, and if it did, fuck it, because there was always today and hopefully tomorrow, and there was a way to solve any problem as long as he had Jami at his side. That’s what he did. Solve problems. Now he had to solve the problem of remembering their vows. And where were the rings? Oh yes, Taylor is in charge of that.

  THE ANNOUNCEMENT WAS made at the entrance of Mr. and Mr. Maxwell Gold as they entered the large tent and sat at their wedding table, which signaled for the guests to sit and to be served. When most of the guests sat the waiters scurried around to pour Champagne for the toast. Max’s friends gathered around to toast him and Jami. Afterwards as the large decorative tent filled up quickly, and men and women and children were seated, waiters in black and white uniforms began serving the food.

  And after everyone ate, the orchestra leader announced the first dance.

  As the song, “At Last,” played in the background and a soulful singer belted it out, Jami and Max stood and took their places on the dance floor in front of their guest. That signaled for the guests who wanted to dance to watch at first, and then join them for their celebration.

  The photographer, only known to them as Dylan snapped picture after picture. He traipsed up and down the floor until Jami waved his hand signaling it was enough, and Dylan stepped back and away from the couple.

  As Max and Jami danced close, Max whispered in his ear, “You’re lucky. No one can see the hard-on you have under that...”

  “If I get any hotter for you we could go to one of those hundreds of rooms and have our honeymoon there before we leave. Look at Taylor’s parents. I don’t think they would mind. Back in the day they were probably Flower Children and they look like they never wanted to see a party end.”

  “Look at your father. Who would have thought that he would turn into the perfect grandparent? He’s been following the nurse around begging to hold the babies.”

  “Now that we’ve named them, we really should stop referring to them as twins, or babies. They could think their names are twins and babies,” Jami said glancing up at Max as he turned and led him from the floor covering up Max’s constant hard-on that never seemed to leave him once he was around Jami.

  When Max and Jami made their way to their table where Taylor and Payton sat, Jami observed a sour look on Payton’s face, and Jami whispered into Max’s ear once they sat.

  “Some of us aren’t as happy as we are. I hope we don’t look like that after a year of marriage. What’s going on there? Payton is staring at Dylan as if he could kill him. Just look, Max.”

  “I don’t have time to look at Taylor and Payton. Taylor can handle the situation. You can see he and Payton are in love.”

  “But if there’s another man who’s coming between our contentment, wouldn’t you want to know about it?” Max didn’t want to know anything. He just wanted to get through this and take Jami with him away were they could be together without drama for once.

  “Payton seems to suspect something. I wish I had known that Taylor and Dylan had a past. I never would have agreed to let him photograph our wedding. He even wants to put the pictures of our apartment in the Homes and Gardens magazine.” Jami glanced over to see if Payton was okay, but Max brought his face back and kissed him.

  After the dancing slowed, and the cake cutting ceremony to the tune of “Better Together,” by Jack Johnson, Max and Jami, glanced at each other restless to leave their party behind to the ones who would celebrate into all hours of the morning without them. The music stopped and then the orchestra played soft music as the guests circled the room stopping and talking to each other and then congratulating Max and Jami.

  Chapter Three

  TAYLOR SAT NEXT TO Max and Payton sat holding Taylor’s knee and then Taylor and Payton leaned close in to each other and kissed. Then there was a bright flash, and when Taylor’s eyes adjusted it was Dylan who had snapped a picture of the two of them.

  “Can you stop taking pictures of us? I think it’s the Gold’s wedding not mine,” Taylor said with a narrow gaze aiming it at Dylan.

  Payton kissed Taylor on the cheek and turned to face Dylan, and then back to Taylor and said, “No, sweetheart, let him take all the pictures of us he can stand. There can never be enough pictures,” Payton said with a closed smile aimed at Dylan. “I’m having more fun at someone else’s wedding than I had at my own.”

  “Really,” Dylan said dryly. He stopped and hung his camera over his arm and stared at Payton. “Why is that?” Dylan’s eyes focused on Taylor, but he asked the question of Payton and never tore his gaze from Taylor.

  “Because Taylor said...” Taylor put his hand over Payton’s hand to stop him. “You’re hired help. I shouldn’t have to talk to you. And why are you in our conversation anyway?”

  “But he asked me a question,” Payton said. “The man deserves an answer even if he is...”

  Taylor interrupted him. “Not a guest. He works here, Payton, now let him work.” Looking around, Taylor stood abruptly and took Payton’s hand, and then led him to the dance floor after looking to see Max and Jami glancing at them.

  They made their way through a crowd of people walking with drinks in hand and chatting under the large tent in the garden area.

  However, Dylan followed them to the floor and continued taking pictures. Taylor turned and narrowed his eyes at Dylan.

  Payton placed his hands on Taylor’s face and ran his finger over Taylor’s bottom lip and he calmed enough for Payton to ask a question. “Why are you being rude, Taylor? It’s not like you to behave like that. You don’t like him, I get it, but why?” Payton looked in Taylor’s green eyes. “What exactly is going on betwee
n the two of you?”

  He placed his hand on Taylor’s face and turned Taylor’s chin around with his finger to face him. “You’re attracted to him. Aren’t you? You were exactly like that when we first met. Rude and insensitive because you wanted to fuck me.”

  “Of course not. And I never treated you like you said. I wasn’t rude.”

  “The hell if you weren’t. I remember in court...”

  “Why the fuck are we talking about another man when I have you here?”

  “And you have him here too, and he won’t leave you alone.   Taylor didn’t know how to stop Payton’s query, but by lying to him, but he promised Payton that he would never lie to him. That was in their vows. He had set his sights on Payton when he ended the relationship with another man, and that other man was Dylan.

  Taylor convinced Payton that he was what he needed all his life, and Payton who had been a straight man in his other life, let Taylor seduce him where he ended up in his bed and fell desperately in love with Taylor.

  Taylor was either that convincing, or Payton’s convictions weren’t that strong. It may have been because Taylor was the best lawyer in New York, or rather in San Francisco where he’d met Payton.
